San Francisco's 2027 goal: end trans homelessness

Homelessness is a big problem for many trans people. Especially in the USA, there are quite a few people who do not have a permanent residence and have to live on the street. A condition that at least the city of San Francisco would like to change.
In 2027, there should be no more trans homelessness here. For this, the current mayor is willing to spend millions. The goal: everyone should have a roof over their head.

San Francisco has always been known as a comparatively open city. Moreover, this place has contributed to the history of homosexual and queer culture. Now, active and, above all, effective action is to be taken against the homelessness of many trans people. But what exactly are the plans?

San Francisco wants to end homelessness

Plans to address homelessness among transgender people

London Breed, the current mayor of San Francisco, has announced plans to end homelessness among transgender citizens by 2027. As a financial cushion, $6.5 million is being made available for the campaign. A lot of money that can certainly be used to achieve a lot if work is done in the right places.

In cooperation with many public agencies, the problem of homelessness should soon come to an end. Among other things, it is planned that departments for housing, homelessness and public health will be included in the program. On the other hand, initiatives from the LGBTQI+ community will also be brought on board. The goal is to provide long-term housing for the queer homeless. It should be clear that this requires appropriately detailed networking.

The fact that many political actors - especially in San Francisco - are so strongly committed to queer rights is not new. Mayor Breed has already made some progress in the past in combating homelessness among transgender people.

Thus, with their participation, a program was launched through which more than ten transsexual persons were provided with an apartment free of charge for one year. Here they could then reorganize their lives and, for example, often find a job.

Great opportunities for trans people

Those who are accepted into the program are given the chance to change their entire lives. Among other things, it is also about finding school or training places for the homeless people to give them a chance to find a place in society.

In addition, help is also offered to those who are often looking for a job. Once people start earning their own money, the quality of life often increases automatically. The step into an own apartment is then often not far.

San Francisco wants to end homelessness

Are only transsexual people helped?

This question is certainly obvious. But: San Francisco naturally wants to end complete homelessness in the city, ... And regardless of which gender or sexual orientation the people concerned belong to.

The homeless rate in the city is now very high. Those interested in the situation within the scene should take a look at the details. The mayor estimates that there are currently about 400 transgender homeless people living in San Francisco. The problem for these people is that it is often difficult, especially for minorities, to find a place in society. Accordingly, their homelessness is a kind of double burden.

Currently, the queer community in the U.S. is also being targeted by legislation in many states. In Florida, for example, schools are not allowed to discuss queer topics in class. And it is precisely this kind of transphobia that often inevitably rubs off on society and everyday life.
