Papis Loveday gives a glimpse into queer life on Promi Big Broter

Papis Loveday talks about being queer

Model Papis Loveday might be known to many "Germany's Next Topmodel" fans. Now he became very emotional in front of the Promi Big Brother cameras when he talked about being gay and his experiences with racism.

Among other things, he explained that coming out would have meant the end of his career, especially in the 1980s. He worries that he now has the impression that these problems regarding homophobia are currently being repeated. And that's what scares him.

Especially interesting: Papis had never officially said that he was gay. However, most people might have had an assumption in this direction. However, he has never been as open about his sexual orientation as he was on PBB. It was virtually an outing in prime time.

Daddy's experience with homophobia

Once started, Papis talked openly about how it was "normal" to be homophobic in his home country in Africa. He is particularly concerned about the contrast between the comparatively free 90s and current conditions. The development is obviously going in the wrong direction.

The model reported that there are many gay men who are beaten because of their sexual orientation. Racism has also become part of everyday life for him for a long time. Among other things, he was not cast as a model because he had a black skin color.

At some point, Papis starts to cry. The emotions have become too strong - especially in the container and in the confined space. However, he receives support from many of his roommates. Paco in particular is on hand to comfort him.

An impressive career

Even though Papis Loveday had never really officially admitted to being gay until his coming out on Promi Big Brother, it was a kind of "confirmation". For many of his fans, it was clear that he was queer. However, this does not seem to have harmed his career.

He works as a successful model, has already walked in Milan and has appeared on numerous magazine covers. The larger audience he became known as a judge on "GNTM" and through other TV shows.

He began to use his popularity and repeatedly spoke out against racism in the past. The statement on Promi Big Brother is also likely to be remembered by many people.

Papis Loveday is not the only queer candidate on Promi Big Brother

PBB 2021 features Papis Loveday, who moved in a few days later than many of his fellow contestants, and other queers.

For Rafi Rachek ("The Bachelorette"/"Bachelor in Paradise"), the "Celebrity Big Brother" experiment is now over. He did not receive enough votes from the viewers. Back then, Rachek outed himself as gay in front of running cameras and during a night of roses on the Paradise format and has been happy with his Sam ever since.

Pascal Kappés, who by his own admission has not yet found his better half, is bisexual.

Last but not least, the two hosts Jochen Schropp and Jochen Bendel ("Promi Big Brother - Die Late Night Show") are also gay. Once again, the format thrives on its versatility, but also demonstrates time and again in an impressive way that queerness has become so wonderfully "normal" in many areas that it doesn't need to be the subject of non-stop discussion. Nevertheless, there is no doubt that moments like Papis' are needed to sensitize people who are otherwise less concerned with LGBTQ and diversity for this important topic - especially in relation to homophobia and racism.
