Bros" is the first queer romantic comedy to hit theaters

Romantic comedies have been produced in Hollywood for decades. They touch the heart and the humorous scenes make millions of viewers laugh. Again and again, producers are looking for fresh ideas for new films that appeal to the masses.

At a time when homosexuals are being granted more and more rights worldwide and more and more queer stars are flickering across domestic screens, the first gay romantic comedy is not to be missed. Especially interesting: The roles are all played by queer stars.

Bros - The First Queer Romantic Comedy

"Bros" breaks new ground

Where once only man and woman found each other in the romantic comedies in the cinema, the film "Bros" is now in some ways paving new paths in Hollywood. About the film is not only the gay love life illuminated. Viewers can also look forward to insights into the homosexual scene. This is still today often very cliché-ridden. The film should succeed in offering a little more clarity here and show how versatile LGBTQIA+ really is.

Among other things, it deals with the gay dating scene and what makes it tick. Therefore, topics such as poppers, sexy pics of men's butts and unusual sex practices are also highlighted.

However, the makers of the film are not completely unconcerned about its release. It is already feared that some of the jokes of the US community might not be understood by the German audience.

However, many critics also emphasize that the film not only refers to the soft and standard gay dating world, but also picks out specific types and groups that are just part of the scene. While US moviegoers must be at least 17 years old to see the film "Bros", the FSK in Germany has approved the film for ages 12 and up.

What is "Bros" about?

Billy Eichner embodies the podcaster Bobby Lieber. His sarcastic manner is particularly well received by the listeners of his podcast "The Eleventh Stone". An interesting detail: The title of the podcast is a reference to the Stonewall Uprising. Here, the eleventh stone was thrown by a cis man.

In addition to his podcast and organizing a museum opening, Bobby likes to hang out on the fictional dating app "Zellwegr," looking for men who would like to spend some erotic time together (or with more than one person).

Away from the Internet world, he meets the educated and handsome lawyer Aaron in a club. Both are sure that they are not looking for a permanent relationship and only want to have a lasting affair. Therefore, the two decide to become "bros." But over time, romantic feelings creep in and both must now confess their love to each other ... not knowing how the other feels.

When the two are not meeting, Bobby is preparing the opening of a queer museum. In this project he gets support from numerous dear, but also headstrong people. He has to deal with the lesbian and tough Cherry again and again. She is actively involved in the lesbian community.

Furthermore, the viewers get to know various characters who also belong to the queer scene. Among them are the bisexual and rough Robert, the non-binary Wanda, the transsexual activist Tamara and the black trans woman Angela. They show not only the enormous diversity of the queer community, but also the internal struggles that each group has to fight.
