Queer service in Munich to be led by Cardinal Marx

Those who are a little familiar with the history of Cardinal Marx may know that the clergyman was not always necessarily friendly towards queers. On the contrary. Only a few years ago, he still called gays, lesbians and others who belong to the community "failed".

Now he seems to have changed his mind - at least a little. Because: Under his leadership, a queer church service will take place in Munich on March 13, 2022. Actually a nice proof that it is obviously possible after all to turn away from one's own homophobic statements and become tolerant instead.

Info around the event in Munich

Cardinal Reinhard Marx is the archbishop of Munich and Freising. He is still known to many members of the community for his homophobic statements, among other things. A few years have passed since then. And if you had told him back then that he would one day lead a queer church service in the future, he probably would have shaken his head in disbelief. But: miracles do happen. And so, on March 13 at 6:30 p.m., he will read just such a mass in the Paulskirche in Munich.

Strictly speaking, it is not even "any fair", but the fair to celebrate the 20th anniversary of these events. Anyone who wants to attend the reception afterwards will need a ticket. This can be ordered free of charge over the side https://www.queergd.de/. The cardinal himself should then also be present.

Much enthusiasm in the social networks

A look at the social networks shows that Cardinal Marx's decision is very positively received in the community. Many queers see this decision as a step in the right direction.

Some see this, among other things, as a kind of turnaround within the church in terms of its attitude toward the community. After all, it would certainly have been inconceivable a few years ago that a cardinal who has always spoken out against homosexuality would suddenly change his mind in this way.

It remains to be seen, of course, to what extent this "trend" will now continue or whether this is a kind of outlier. Nevertheless, other actions, such as the outing of numerous employees of the church or the great interest in the blessing services for homosexual couples, show that here again and again topics are triggered that move the masses... And which perhaps also ensure that queerness plays an increasingly present role in everyday life.

Who is Cardinal Marx, anyway?

Cardinal Marx has been appointed Archbishop of Munich for several years. Accordingly, he enjoys a high reputation within the faith community. Statements along the lines of "homosexuals are failed people" spread quickly. Among other things, he also spoke out in the past against marriage for all and the blessing of homosexual couples. The latter until 2018, when he already began to row back a little here. However, he made a complete about-face a few weeks ago. In the meantime, he even openly advocates that it should also be possible for homosexual men to become priests.

The fact that he has now decided to lead the queer service in Munich in the Paulskirche is accordingly a logical step that shows that even the representatives of traditional institutions can definitely approach the community.

One response to "Queer service launches March 13"

  1. The Catholic Church, the German Bishops' Conference is under enormous pressure. Rightly so! Criminals like Bishop Woelki try to cover up, embezzle expert opinions about sexual abuse of children and young people by Catholic priests. "Cardinal Woelki offers Pope to renounce office", the Catholic rat (ex-Pope) Ratzinger squirms and threatens to slip on his slime trail. This viper breed deserves punishment and excommunication. They are at a loss, and would have to admit guilt courageously and concretely with consequences or slime. Bishop Marx offered the Pope the (deserved!!!) resignation, which the Pope refuses. The pressure on the sinecure of the church is growing, the number of resignations is increasing rapidly. I am a great friend and advocate of the cathartic slap in the face. I have experienced in my now seventy years of life that the rats dance cheekily on the table because they know that no one has the courage to give them a little thrashing. The moment Woelki (Cologne), Marx (Munich-Freising) and all the other Catholic abuse rats get a beating, the problem will change abruptly. Only when the first bishop at the high mass, on the altar island in front of the assembly of the faithful receives 3 huge cheek blows, the glasses flying in a wide arc against the wall, only then will they gradually understand- it's over. Only when the first bishop/cardinal comes into the prison, the problem becomes a disaster!
