There is no LGBTQI+ in Poland's schools.

The curricula and learning content in Poland's schools will change in the future. After the LGBTQI+ free zones were already introduced in the country(and exactly that was criticized by the responsible persons in many countries), it was now decided that also contents about same-sex love and co. have no place in the curriculum.

The country's conservative forces have now passed a law that will make the community and its members virtually invisible in schools. Few would have suspected that the plans would ultimately be implemented so quickly.

Homophobic law has already been passed

The opposition had fought back, but ultimately had no chance. Because: 233 to 220 deputies voted for the homophobic law and showed once again how difficult it is for the community in Poland even today. In order for the new regulations to become official, they still need a signature.

However, it is very unlikely that President Andrzej Duda will speak out against this. After all, he is also one of those who support conservative values. Thus, the law is more or less already in the bag.

A look at the new law...

The new law around queer content in schools, which - as mentioned - should now no longer take place, is more far-reaching than it might seem at first glance. Because: After Duda's signature, it is in the hands of the government what content is taught in schools in Poland. Teachers will be controlled to the extent that it will become their job to submit their lesson plans weeks in advance in order to get approval for them. Those who resist or provide false information face harsh penalties and can even be fired.

The requirements with regard to educational opportunities outside of school are similarly strict. In addition, not only the teachers but also the students are held accountable. Anyone who does not play along here can be expelled from school.

Sex education without queer issues in Poland's schools

Due to the new regulations, queerness does not take place in the classroom. Or, in other words, students do not come into contact with information about same-sex love and the like - at least in everyday school life and in the context of extracurricular educational opportunities. Above all, sex education is likely to be affected by the innovations. Here, the focus is supposed to be exclusively on the relationship between a man and a woman.

Accordingly, the goal is to strengthen the classic image of the family.

What are the consequences of the innovations?

Apart from the fact that, on the basis of the innovations, more and more children are being taught that it is apparently "abnormal" to be queer, the psychological consequences should not be underestimated. Young people who realize for themselves that they are queer, for example, are likely to find it increasingly difficult to cope with everyday school life in Poland. After all, they are unmistakably told that there is supposedly "something wrong" with them.

With the rapid change in the law, Poland is once again going against the values of the EU. It is very unlikely that the whole thing will be accepted without discussion. After all, more and more countries are campaigning for more tolerance for queers. The relationship between the European Union and Hungary has already been put to the test in this area.
