Blessing services are repeated - many in the community are pleased

The blessing services of queer couples in 2021 were well received by many. After all, sexual orientation and faith are not mutually exclusive. Now the whole thing is to be repeated. Certainly also due to the high popularity.

On May 10(and thus on the same day as in 2021) it should be so far. On this day there is to be a "revival" for #liebegewinnt. The blessings are reserved exclusively for couples from the scene. All information that is known so far was published in a press release.

LGBTQI+ Blessing Services

New slogan for a popular action

According to one of the initiators, Pastor Burkhard Hose, there have meanwhile been many requests for a repetition of the action. Both from Germany and from abroad. The motto of the blessings in 2022 is also particularly exciting in this context. The action is to run under the motto "There is still much open". The message: much has already been achieved, but: there is still more to do. And even if it is obvious in the first step to relate the "still much open" to the fact that many couples still want to be blessed, there also remains a message on the meta-level and a demand for more equality in general.

With the slogan the responsible persons might speak many humans from the scene from the heart.

At the moment, it seems as if the church and the community could possibly come a little closer together in the future. It was not long ago that numerous church employees came out as queer and thus ensured more visibility within the institution. Accordingly, it is certainly not an exaggeration to claim that the actions #outinchurch and #liebegewinnt or "There's still a lot open" complement each other in a special way.

Many community members would like to see more acceptance within their faith community.

How did LGBTQI+ blessing services come about in the first place?

For many queers, sexual orientation and faith are not mutually exclusive. All the greater was the outcry that accompanied the ban on blessing queer couples, which was supported on the part of the church.

The blessing services, which took place for the first time in 2021, can be seen as a kind of "loving protest" or "protest for love." Although the Vatican opposed it, clergy decided to bless same-sex couples, thus showing "You belong to us.". They should not be denied the blessing of their faith community in the future, at least if it goes according to the will of the organizers.

A special message is carried into the world

The 2021 blessing services were evidently not a "flash inthe pan" but an action that may be repeated in the years to come. What is also particularly impressive is that the whole thing enjoyed great popularity not only in Germany, but also in other countries. Thanks to the internet, queers from the international scene also had the opportunity to join in the celebration.

It became clear that it was possible to hold blessing celebrations without the Vatican's approval. What was dubbed by conservatives as a rebellion and as unacceptable, was seen by others as an important message. #lovewins. And who knows? The more queers decide to stand by their faith AND their love, the more others should feel encouraged to combine the two.
