Doctor Who: The next regeneration is set

Doctor Who fans are always excited when "The Doctor" changes his appearance and thus his essence. Since the series resumption, more than 13 different faces have already portrayed the Time Lord from Gallifrey - not counting the old-time regenerations. Last summer, Jodie Whittaker announced she was leaving the series. Since then, Whovians have been eagerly awaiting the successor.

With Whittaker, the Doctor got a female face for the first time and still managed to inspire fans from almost all generations. But now it's time to usher in a new era. But how? The rumor mill is bubbling and the new Dr. Who face could provide a real sensation.

There is a new Doctor Who

First homosexual Doctor?

After the first female regeneration traveled with the T.A.R.D.I.S. through the different galaxies, the next regeneration is represented by the actor Ncuti Gatwa. This is known to many, among other things, for his participation in the series "Sex Education", in which he embodied the homosexual Eric Effiong. For his kiss with fellow actor Connor Swindells, he was nominated for the MTV Movie & TV Award 2019 in the category "best kiss".

Many are eager to see how the Rwandan-British actor will portray the Doctor. Some rumor that he could be the first Doctor who lives out a homosexual vein. In terms of love, Doctor Who is rarely boring. After all, the main character has already had to leave many love affairs and great loves behind him.

However, only time will tell exactly what exciting adventures the authors have come up with for the new face of the series. Surely there will be a reunion with the Daleks, Cyberman and the Master, while the Doctor discovers new life forms.

Fans are excited about the choice of the new Doctor

Ever since it was announced that Ncuti Gatwa will play the new Doctor, many fans on social media have been simply freaking out. Many Doctor Who lovers (and perhaps "Sex Education" fans) are looking forward to seeing the actor in action in a completely different role.

The community is also in a frenzy. They celebrate the fact that those responsible have not only broken new ground with the female Doctor Who, but are now thinking even further outside the box.

So much positive reception shows that the BBC has made the right decision. We can eagerly wait to see how much LGBTQIA+ will be integrated into the new seasons.

When the film and TV scene changes...

Diversity and openness are now writ large in a wide variety of media. This is currently demonstrated not only by a (possibly) gay Doctor Who, but also by an Arielle who is portrayed as a person of color.
However, not everyone is enthusiastic about this kind of novelty. There are definitely people who would prefer it if "everything stayed the same". The potential reorientation of Doctor Who would represent a special kind of caesura.

After all, this is not "just any series", but a real guarantee of success that has meanwhile thrilled millions of fans. And if exactly THAT ensures that just a few more people deal with the issues of tolerance and diversity... All the better.
