"Fag bandage" - AfDler with absolute No Go

The German national team cut a very good figure in the match against Portugal and that too with the "fag bandage". Actually, everything could be beautiful. Actually. AfD politician Uwe Junge seems to feel disturbed by one detail here. We're not talking about the team's playing tactics, but about the captain's armband on Neuer's upper arm, which this year features a rainbow design. A gesture of solidarity with the LGBTQ community.

The AfD politician in question, however, referred to it as a "fag bandage" - and thus turned many on the net against him.

Boy has deleted his tweet again - but: the network does not forget

AfD politician Uwe Junge seems to have been affected by the headwind and the media response, because the post in which he called Manuel Neuer's captain's armband a "faggot's armband" is already history.

Literally it said here: "Munich Arena should glow in rainbow colors at the Hungary game and Neuer wears the fag bandage instead of our national colors. Now you need to take a knee and you will lose more and more fans. You have to be able to afford it."

The inclined Twitter user can now interpret for himself whether Junge was more upset about the illuminated arena or the captain's armband or both.

However, his statement doesn't seem to have changed anything about the plans for the upcoming Hungary game. As before, the rainbow is to shine in different ways. And perhaps Junge will also consider in the future how much homophobia his followers on Twitter will still tolerate.

Not a sign against the country Hungary, but for more tolerance?!

It is no coincidence that the rainbow is to play such a big role in the stadium, especially at the match against Hungary.

After all, the country, or rather Orbán, has been heavily criticized for some time now, since a law was passed here that states that young people - for example in school and in connection with advertising - should no longer come into contact with transsexual content. In the meantime, the legality of this law is being reviewed.

However, those calling for the bright colors are certainly not about speaking out against Hungary itself, but merely against the country's policies related to the treatment of queers.

Uwe Junge distances himself from his tweet

This is not the first time that an AfD politician has subsequently distanced himself from statements made in advance. At least in part.

He acknowledged that he would apologize for the word "fag bandage." But not much more. He was still of the opinion that the rainbow did not belong on or to the jersey.

Or - in his words: "I deleted the tweet about the captain's armband.I apologize for the term "faggot armband. As far as the content is concerned, I stand by my statement that such statements have no place on the jersey of the national team. Our colors are black, red and gold."

However, smoothing the waters doesn't really seem to be working. In the meantime, a number of Twitter users have vented their anger. Here, among other things, the message is "Better faggot than swastika bandage!". Last but not least, the likelihood that the whole thing will be quickly shelved is close to zero. Because: several users have the statement, which (as said) has since been deleted from the account, gescreentshoted and inserted several times in the comment bar.

Whether the whole thing will have partisan consequences for Junge remains to be seen.
