STDs

For many people, STDs are often among the problems that "mostly only the others" have to deal with anyway.

The risk of becoming infected in the course of one's life is high. Particularly when partners are changed frequently and appropriate protection with condoms is neglected, there are many indications that a visit to the doctor will be necessary at some point.

Fortunately, however, it is possible to reduce your own risk of infection with hepatitis, chlamydia and other diseases. If you are attentive, you not only protect yourself, but you can also help to prevent the spread of these diseases.

In short: protection against STDs should be a matter of course for everyone, even if many of the complaints are not fatal but "only" unpleasant.

But how exactly can STIs actually be prevented? The following tips will help you to be a little safer in bed.

The classic: the condom

When you think of safer sex, you inevitably think of the condom. It is considered one of the "main weapons" against HIV and other infections that can be transmitted during sex. The rubber range of the leading manufacturers has expanded greatly over time. Whether it's a matter of providing an extra kick of sensation with particularly thin condoms or trying out different flavors, the days when rubbers were still considered a "means to an end" or even boring are over.

Early detection

Admittedly, at the latest when you recognize relevant symptoms, for example in connection with genital warts, it is too late to prevent the STD in you. In this case, however, you can make sure that you do not infect your partner.

Therefore, it is all the more important to observe your own body closely and, for example, to be alert to increased itching, pain when urinating and so on. If in doubt, you should of course consult a doctor.

If you are diagnosed AFTER you have slept with your partner, it is important to remain honest. Tell him about your diagnosis so that he can get checked out if necessary.

A reliable hygiene

What applies to the rest of your body, of course, also applies to your best piece! However, it is especially important that you do not overdo it with regard to your intimate care.

Because: this way you can make this sensitive area even more vulnerable to infections and co.

Therefore, use clear water and relevant products to care for mucous membranes and the like. Experience has shown that fungi otherwise form quickly, which can lead to itching and pain.

The vaccination

You can also get vaccinated against some sexually transmitted diseases. Vaccination against HPV is particularly widespread. If you change your sex partners frequently or want to be on the safe side, you should inform yourself about this possibility.

The cost of HPV vaccination is covered by health insurance for boys or young men between the ages of nine and 14. Some health insurance companies are a little more accommodating here and pay for a vaccination even beyond this age group. Because: it is a prejudice that the HPV vaccination is only useful for women. Men can also develop malignant tumors.

Conclusion

The list of STDs that a person can come into contact with in the course of his or her life is long. Some diseases are "only" inconvenient, others can actually become dangerous.

If you want to enjoy your sex life to the fullest - and as far as possible without worries - you should not only rely on wearing condoms, but also remain attentive with regard to vaccinations, hygiene and co.

However, there is no 100% protection against STDs. Therefore, it is important to consult a doctor if you experience symptoms that make you suspicious. He or she will be able to assess the situation professionally.

The basis for enjoying sex is your health
