A special farewell: Thomas Hermanns no longer hosts the Quatsch Comedy Club

These two greats belonged together for many years: Thomas Hermanns and the Quatsch Comedy Club. Now the queer artist has decided to devote himself to other tasks and hang up the moderation mic.

In total, he has announced artists in his Quatsch Comedy Club over a period of 30 years. Some of them started their careers on these famous boards and are now on the big stages of the (comedy) world.
Thomas Hermanns, however, has now decided to go new ways and devote himself to other tasks.

In mid-December, on 12.12.2022 to be precise, another anniversary show will be recorded in Berlin. Atze Schröder and Oliver Pocher will be among the guests.

What is the Quatsch Comedy Club?

The Quatsch Comedy Club is based on the way comedy is celebrated and loved in America. It doesn't really take much: a stage and a talented artist.
Hermanns was one of the first to realize that the concept could also be successful in Germany. He opened clubs in Hamburg, Berlin and Munich, among other places.

He himself enchanted the audience not only with his charming manner, but also with intros that blended into the program and once again showed that he too is a great comedian who knows what his audience expects from him. Thus, his Quatsch Comedy Club helped many artists to fame. Among others, Carolin Kebekus had her first appearances here in front of a larger audience.

Other tasks - but which ones?

Anyone who says he wants to devote himself to "other tasks" in the future shouldn't be too surprised to be followed by a "Which one?" Not only die-hard Thomas Hermann fans know that he loves music, and musicals in particular, among other things.

He also writes plays himself and always makes sure that the visibility of the scene here is not neglected either. A particular example of Hermanns' ability to be thoughtful was his production of the musical "Considering Matthew Shepard. It deals with the story of a boy from America who was killed by homophobic perpetrators in the late 1990s.

And he himself was always drawn to the musical stage. He is currently playing Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray".

Who is Thomas Hermanns?

Thomas Hermanns was born in Bochum, but moved to Nuremberg when he was only six years old. He studied theater from 1981 and graduated in 1988. Shortly thereafter, he began directing various TV shows. In 1992 he opened the first Quatsch Comedy Club. He has also staged shows for Kaya Yanar, Gayle Tufts and Michael Mittermeier, among others.

He has also hosted the Bambi Awards (together with Sky du Mont), Popclub and Red Nose Day.

The fact that he has now decided to be less of a presenter on stage is likely to make many of his fans sad. The good news, however, is that he will remain with the audience - just in a different way. Hermanns is proving that even at the end of his 50s, it's not too late for him to take a new direction. And it should also be clear that he will continue to stand up for the rights of the LGBTQIA+ community and represent them to the outside world.

One response to "Thomas Hermanns quits".

  1. it's quite a pity to hear. but why are Atze Schröder and Oliver Pocher, of all people, invited to the closing. So with both of them I regularly switch off, I find their acting neither funny nor tasteful.
