In the US state of Idaho, right-wingers wanted to attack LGBTQIA+ festival

The "Pride in Park" festival enjoys particular popularity in the USA, or more precisely in Idaho. Every year, queers - including those from other US states - meet here to celebrate and draw attention to the desire for more visibility.

In 2022, however, an incident occurred in which - thanks to the courageous intervention of the police - something worse was prevented.
More than 30 members of a right-wing group wanted to storm the festival.

What happened at the Pride in Park?

According to the police, more than 30 people who feel they belong to a right-wing group have been arrested in the US state. They allegedly planned to attack the Pride in Park festival.

The fact that the officers were able to intervene so quickly at all was not only great luck, but was also due to the courageous intervention of a local resident. He reported to the police because he observed how the right-wingers had gathered in the parking lot of a hotel and then got into a truck.

This is exactly what seemed skeptical not only to said resident, but also to the police. The officers set out and eventually managed to find and stop the truck. The right-wingers were arrested on the spot.

Their goal was to cause trouble at the festival. Among other things, they had a smoke grenade with them, but also a plan for their attack. The individuals came from different parts of the U.S. and wore masks to avoid being recognized. In the context of the press conference, which gave the police of Idaho before journalists, besides still from "further equipment" the speech was. However, more details about this are not known.
However, the popular festival itself then proceeded peacefully.

Who were the right-wingers?

This is a question that should not only concern the people who attended the festival. According to the police, the people belong to the so-called Patriot Front. The members of this group are basically convinced that white people are more valuable than "people of color". However, the incident also shows once again that racism and homophobia can be intertwined... and that it is particularly important to inform the police of observations that seem "somehow strange" - of course not only in the USA, but also in Germany.

LGBTQIA+ events: many organizers and also the police are prepared

In order to prevent assaults at LGBTQIA+ events as best as possible, much has been achieved in the course of the last time - also in this country. Among other things, members of the police force have been explicitly trained in the prosecution of homophobic acts.

Associations and activists also repeatedly call for a closer look at violence against members of the community and for such attacks to be declared as such. Only if this happens is it possible, among other things, to recognize the extent of hate violence and hate crime and to better combat the causes.

One area that is particularly important in this context is education. Among other things, it is important to sensitize people who do not belong to the community to the fact that queers are (unfortunately) still too often the target of right-wing groups.

Had the resident in question, who notified the police in Idaho, not been aware of this, everything could have possibly turned out very differently.
