Things remain exciting around the OnlyFans platform. Only recently it became known that erotic content should actually - from October - no longer play a role here. The platform planned to distance itself accordingly. Now, however, there seem to be changes again. Allegedly, it will still be allowed to distribute such content.

But how does the sudden "change of mind" actually happen? And how safe is it that OnlyFans users can continue to watch sexy content? Questions over questions... But a few can already be answered.

Many users of OnlyFans criticized the procedure

For many people, it was clear what they could expect from OnlyFans and what the platform stood for. Here, the focus was increasingly on naked skin and sexy content. For a fee, users were able to let their thoughts wander a bit in erotic terms.

However, what was merely fun for some was the basis of their livelihood for others. There are many people who not only run OnlyFans "on the side", but have actually made it their main source of income. But what if exactly this breaks away? Those who mainly rely on sexual content, earned good money with it, but are now no longer allowed to post it, have a real problem.

This is exactly what those affected seemed to be aware of. The result: they gave free vent to their anger. Among others, many members of the LGBTQI+ scene also complained.

Now OnlyFans has reacted.

What should change at OnlyFans?

Still quite a bit. Even though the operators of the platform have meanwhile rowed back and thus said goodbye to the particularly extensive changes that should actually have been implemented from October, smaller details are to be readjusted.

However, on Twitter they stated unequivocally that (quote) "OnlyFans stands for inclusion and we will continue to provide a home for all creators. ".

In other reports, there is talk of a possible proof of age to ensure that customers are old enough to view the corresponding content. This is intended to provide additional protection for minors.

What is certain, however, is that the platform's image is likely to be somewhat "tarnished" by the back and forth. In addition, there are other alternatives on the web for earning money with erotic content. Anyone who is disappointed by one platform will therefore not have a hard time "migrating" to the next. Especially if the channel operators have already managed to build up a somewhat broader fan base, it could also be that they "take" several users with them. It remains to be seen whether the announcement to ban sexual content has harmed OnlyFans or merely contributed to an increased level of awareness.

What role does the Internet play for sex workers?

Among other things, of course, the Corona pandemic has ensured that the everyday lives of sex workers have changed significantly over time. In times of contact and exit restrictions, it was easier to go online instead of meeting up.

In this context, many may also have noticed how uncomplicated it can be to move sex work online. Due to the increased importance and the big role that the internet plays for the business nowadays, it is understandable that many sex workers (among others also from the LGBTQI+ scene) went to the barricades after the announcement to become more well-behaved.

How the whole thing will continue and whether OnlyFans might change its mind again remains to be seen. One thing is certain: The platform has impressively managed to be noticed in the media in a way that is new to it.
