Actors and actresses from the soap GZSZ set a sign against homophobia

At a time when homophobia unfortunately still poses a threat to many people, the makers of GZSZ have decided to set a special example.

Under the hashtag "#nichtsgegenheteros" they confront viewers with statements that queers actually have to deal with. However, it is precisely when they are turned around and directed at straight people that it becomes clear how queer they actually are.

What makes you smile at first glance actually has a serious background. Among other things, the campaign is to be set on Facebook and on Instagram.

Participants and statements in the overview

Among others, Ulrike Frank and Valentina Pahde are involved in the campaign. Frank utters exactly the sentence that I'm sure just about every single queer - albeit "a little differently" - has heard at least once in their lives: "I have a straight boyfriend. You guys really need to get to know each other!".

Furthermore, GZSZ veteran Wolfgang Bahro and Lennart Borchert, who played a gay man on GZSZ himself, are also in the game.

It's all based on probably one of the most famous sentence starters when it comes to discussions about homophobia: "I have nothing against gays, but...".

However, many people are probably only now becoming aware of what it can trigger in a person to be insulted and discriminated against in this indirect way. The question: "Why are sentences like "What are you actually going to do when your child turns gay?" allowed, and why does the counterpart in the straight version evoke incredulous faces?" should certainly be allowed.

GZSZ stars also supported other campaigns in the past to raise awareness of special issues

It's nothing new that many GZSZ stars support campaigns to help young people in difficult situations. In the past, too, there have been repeated campaigns that were intended to raise awareness and - due to their wide reach - did not miss the target group.

The campaign in particular, which drew attention to the fact that children were often written to by adults via the Internet without being able to properly assess the danger of this situation, made a big impression. Accordingly, the current campaign on the subject of homophobia is also likely to make many people at least think.

GZSZ tackles the issue of homophobia

Homophobia, same-sex love and the like have always played an important role in GZSZ, even in terms of the plot. The characters in question have almost always had to deal with prejudice, emotional chaos and, from time to time, violence. Long before there was such public discussion as there is today about how big the community is, who all belongs to it, and how people who are discriminated against by violence and verbal statements feel, the scripts dealt with this important topic.

So it's all the better that the makers and actors are now going one step further and taking the challenges the characters faced in the plot into the "here and now".

Due to the ironic, sometimes funny design of the whole thing, it is always fun to look at the different statements in the individual clips and realize how grotesque it actually is to expect, for example, that two men can be enthusiastic about each other just because they both happen to be gay.

By the way, the reactions to the campaign are quite positive. Many straight people can also be amused by the statements... Even if they sometimes hold up a mirror to them in a sobering way.
