Nicolas Puschmann, the first Prince Charming and successful participant of the RTL format Let's Dance left the Hamburg Christmas market with a bloody nose and a fat lip. What exactly happened that evening is not yet completely clear. Even though both Puschmann and his spokesman have already spoken out, some things still remain unclear.

Nicolas Puschmann is injured

Puschmann documented his Christmas market visit on Instagram

Actually, everything was the same as always. Puschmann decided to share his everyday life with his fans and took them with him - via Instagram - between the stalls. Among other things, he had himself photographed together with his fans and seemed to have had an all-around perfect day - at least until the incident in question.

Afterwards, however, there was an incident that he would certainly have liked to have spared himself, but which is now also fueling the rumor mill a bit about what might have happened in detail.

Puschmann himself speaks in this context of a misunderstanding because of a water hose, the management speaks of a security employee who overreacted.

Was it a homophobic assault?

It's no longer a secret that Nicolas Puschmann is gay. He is currently one of the best-known German queers in the reality TV landscape and recently landed a role on Unter Uns. Accordingly, it is quite obvious to assume a homophobic reason for the attack.

Meanwhile, there are many reports that Puschmann was a victim of the attack because he was gay.

Especially Nicolas' Instagram statement, in which he - with a bloody nose - talks about "Love is Love" and explains that queers do not have the same rights as everyone else, gives reason to think. Maybe the assault was not a misunderstanding after all, but an attack on his sexual orientation?

One of the last sentences in his story about the incident is also striking: "That's just the way it is sometimes as a gay man in Germany. ".

Pushman's agent comments to RTL

The fact that rumors about a homophobic attack were making the rounds in the media did not go unnoticed by ex-Prince Charming. The subsequent statement that was given to RTL afterwards, however, does not really match the spontaneous video that was recorded at the Christmas market after the attack.

Because: According to the spokesman, there was no homophobic motive. The question is whether Puschmann's emotions got the better of him that evening and he interpreted the incident differently, or whether a more detailed statement will be made only after the ongoing investigation (charges of assault have been filed in the meantime).

One way or another: a long road

Regardless of whether the attack on Nicolas Puschmann was a homophobic act or whether a misunderstanding was the trigger, a look at statistics and survey results shows that many gays still do not feel safe in everyday life. Many of them are afraid of walking hand in hand with their partner through the streets, for example.

Gay men and transsexuals are especially often victims of violence and abuse. Therefore, it is not an exaggeration to say that the community still has to fight for their rights every day and the possibility of "marriage for all" does not mean that all problems have just been eliminated.

The question that many fans are now asking themselves in relation to Nicolas Puschmann is: Would the assault also have occurred if Puschmann had been straight?
