Pride in London is supported in a special way

A great sign for support and tolerance comes these days from the British capital London Pride. Prides have been celebrated here for exactly 50 years. The city has come up with a special surprise in this context. It has agreed to support the London Prides over the next five years with a sum of around 720,000 euros. At a time when so many things are becoming more expensive, this is a very special sign.

But that's not all! There are many other "details" to celebrate the 50th anniversary of London Pride.

London Pride gets support

Actions against homophobia and racism planned

Even in a comparatively cosmopolitan city like London, racism and homophobia unfortunately still play a major role for many people. Many people feel threatened and are afraid to show themselves in public with their partner, for example.

Therefore, a community council is now to be established in the city, whose task will be to design counteracting concepts.

A look at current statistics shows that hate crime cases are on the rise not only in London, but across the UK. In many cases, the victims belong to a different nationality or are queer. And this is precisely where the work of the newly founded Community Council comes in.

In London, many activists are already standing up for queer rights

Of course, London has not been idle when it comes to speaking out for more tolerance and supporting minorities. In the city area, there are several associations and actions that actively stand up for the rights of the community again and again and - also in the context of the various Prides - set an example.

Many of these people work without being financially compensated for it.

The Prides have always been very popular in the British capital. The number of participants for the 50th anniversary was in the seven-digit range.

Now the events will be supported by the city for the next five years. The mayor said in a statement that London is a "beacon of inclusion around the world. And it is precisely this effect that is due, among other things, to the fact that the Prides also have a corresponding effect on society.

Those responsible for organizing London Pride so sacrificially every year were very pleased. However, they are also aware that it will take a long time before we can speak of comprehensive tolerance. But: The support of the city shows that the interaction between queers and politics is on a good path. And somehow it is also reassuring to see that the city has decided in this way to give something back to the Prides.

The Pride 2023 in London

The next London Pride will take place in July 2023. The main parade will start at BBC Broadcasting House and then make its way towards Oxford Circus. From here it will go to Regent Street, through Piccadilly Circus, across Lower Regent Street through Trafalgar Square and into White Hall.

Experience shows that London always turns into a big, colorful party during its Prides. Whether in gay bars, gay clubs or in gay saunas: Here the community from home and abroad is offered a lot.
