The Frankfurt area has its first gay prince and princess
The fifth season has begun. And it doesn't matter whether we're talking about "Carnival," "Fasching" or "Fastnacht: In many parts of Germany, things are now getting a little more colorful and varied. In Mörfelden in the Frankfurt area, even in many respects.
Because: Here the fools are not led by a classic man-woman prince and princess, but by a gay prince and princess. In the coming months and until Ash Wednesday, everything here will be under the scepter of Kai I and Sven I.
The reactions to the proclamation were mixed. Many people welcome the fact that the carnival association "Die Sandhasen" has taken this step. As expected, however, there are also many traditional fools who would actually have liked everything to stay the same.
One thing is certain: The fact that Kai I. and Sven I. now rule the world of fools and carnival is seen by many people as an important sign. It stands for more tolerance and acceptance - two values that should actually play an important role in the "fifth season" in particular.
A small, big premiere
If you look a little into the history of the Mörfelden Carnival Association, you will quickly realize that the decision to have a gay prince and princess is a premiere. Because: Even if there were already several homosexual prince pairs in Germany - for Mörfelden in the area Frankfurt it concerns here a small premiere. Until now, there was only the classic man-woman combination here.
The decision for a homosexual prince and princess falls on the 55th anniversary of the popular carnival club and thus becomes a highlight in many respects. In this way, the anniversary is to be combined once again with a very special step. After all, it is nowhere stipulated that a prince and princess must necessarily be heterosexual.
Who is the gay prince and princess of Mörfelden?
The gay prince and princess of Mörfelden are also together in real life. They are the vice-president of the carnival club, Sven Tolksdorf, and his partner Kai Kayser. Tolksdorf already has a long carnival history. He has been involved for more than eleven years. In the beginning, he limited himself to working mainly in the background, organizing and supporting.
At some point, however, he was drawn to the larger audience and became a dancer and carnival speaker. Now, with the "leap" to Carnival Prince, he is fulfilling exactly the dream that surely many people have who have been active in the carnival scene for so long.
His partner shares his enthusiasm for the fifth season. The two have been together for about three years now.
And what does the club say?
Of course, a prince and princess can only reign if the associated association is behind them. About a lack of support Sven Tolksdorf and his friend must worry apparently in no case. A press release from the association said that the Sandhasen were looking forward to their first prince and princess and were proud to thus set a "signal for openness and diversity" in carnival.
The decision for two gay men at the head of the fools for 2022/ 2023 represents however also in other regard an important caesura. Because: With Kai I. and Sven I. it acts not only around the first homosexual prince pair of Mörfelden, but also around the first homosexual prince pair in the complete Frankfurt area.
So the fifth season, which many people have been waiting for so much, should definitely live up to the designation "colorful" here.
