Israel: Rainbow couples now allowed to become surrogate parents

This is an important break in the direction of "more equal rights for rainbow couples". In Israel, same-sex couples (and singles, too, by the way) will be allowed to have children in the future with the support of a surrogate mother. A statement to this effect has already been issued by the current Minister of Health. The new law is to come into force as early as January 11, 2022.
A historic moment for the country and especially for its community!

A look into the past and into the future

In general, of course, it is interesting to note that the new possibilities did not come "allat once" but are in some ways the result of a longer development.
Until now, for example, only heterosexual couples were allowed to work with a surrogate mother in Israel to fulfill their desire to have children. And even here, extremely strict guidelines had to be observed. For example, anyone who is gay and still does not want to give up their so often cited "perfect family happiness" has had to hope in Israel that a surrogate mother from another country could be found.
In short, anyone who wanted to enjoy a new addition to the family as a same-sex couple had to overcome a number of hurdles in Israel. In the future, however, this is to become a thing of the past. That's why it's somewhat self-explanatory why the community there has reason to celebrate right now.

The statement of the Israeli Minister of Health

The statement by Israel's current Minister of Health showed how moved politicians, among others, can be by this emotional topic. Horowitz emphasized that this is a "historic day" from which not only the LGBTQI+ community of the country, but the entire society can benefit.
And indeed: from mid-January 2022, same-sex couples in Israel will now also have the opportunity to fulfill their dream of having a family with children.
At the same time, those responsible in politics seem to be well aware that - despite the far-reaching changes - there are still many barriers to be removed on the path to equality. The rights of surrogate mothers are also to be strengthened and protected in this context.
The options available to same-sex couples in this context are now much more varied than was previously the case.
Sometimes, however, it may still take patience for many to get to that point and hear a loud "Mama!" or "Dad!" to greet them. After all, a large number of same-sex couples are currently matched by a comparatively small number of surrogate mothers. It is to be hoped that this will change in the coming months and years so that the new options can be used even more individually.
In order to create the best possible conditions for both children and parents, an official application must of course still be submitted now. Based on the document, interviews and the like, it will then be decided whether the applicants in question are suitable to be parents. The surrogate mother will of course also be involved in the process.

What is the situation like for queers in Israel?

Israel is one of the countries that have become significantly more tolerant towards homosexuals or queers in general over the years.
The changes are particularly evident in the big cities. One event that is now making big waves - even beyond the country's borders - is the annual Gay Pride in Tel-Aviv. Demands for more equal rights are also a standard part of this event.
