The ramparts of Greifswald

The ramparts of Greifswald were built in 1264 to defend the city. It was equipped inside with thick walls, high turrets and a large number of gates. Around it, the high ramparts were built to make it difficult to climb up with many ditches and thick watercourses. Today, only about 1.6 kilometers of the old city wall are preserved, but it encloses almost the entire old town in an oval shape.

But at the beginning of the 19th century, these old ramparts began to be transformed into a beautiful park.
