Among other things, the RTL Water Games will also be a little queer

RTL has a new game show: The RTL Water Games. Among others, Hanna Sökeland and trans activist Ben Melzer are also taking part. First pictures show that the audience should also be offered a lot for the eye.

A total of eight celebrities will be competing. And as the title of the show suggests, everything revolves around water on October 22, 2022. The entire event will take place under the lifeguard supervision of Oliver Pocher. Laura Wontorra and Jan Köppen will be the hosts.

The RTL Water Games: Which queers are in it?

Many may know Hanna Sökeland from the current Princess Charming season. Ben Melzer is also known from reality TV. In 2016, he was the first trans man who managed to be featured on the cover of the well-known Men's Health. At that time, the media echo was very big.

Prince Damien will also be taking part in the RTL water games. However, he will not be playing himself, but "only" providing musical accompaniment to one of the games.

A closer look at the show

The RTL Water Games take place in the Europapark Rust. The well-known park is home to the "Rulantica" water world. And that's exactly where it gets particularly action-packed on October 22, just in time for prime time. Because: The celebrities Larissa Marolt, Filip Pavlovic, Ekatarina Leonova, Lola Weippert, Hanna Sökeland, Benjamin Melzer, Matthias Mester and Marc Terenzi will conquer slides and other challenges ... and that on more than 30,000 square meters. A great setting for a (hopefully) great show!

The mix of freefall and tire slides will certainly not be boring. In total, the participants have to prove themselves in seven different games and prevail against their fellow players.

Funnily enough, the action in and on the water is not the end of the story. Because: The celebrities also have to convince in other categories, such as knowledge.

RTL has experience with shows of this kind

This is not the first time that the private broadcaster's audience has been offered a sports show with celebrities on a (for them) rather unknown terrain. Among other things, prominent Ninja Warriors have already been sought out, and the Summer Games were also very popular with the audience. So it remains to be seen how successful the Water Games will be. What is certain is that they will provide a splashy change of pace in the fall - in the truest sense of the word.

And those who are less enthusiastic about sports but more about beautiful people should also get their money's worth.

Queer visibility in primetime shows

In the meantime, the TV landscape seems to have changed with regard to the visibility of queer people. Parallel to relevant formats, such as "Prince Charming" or "Princess Charming," it can also be observed more and more that people who became known through the said formats are now guests in shows in which their queerness is often not directly brought up. The RTL water games might be a classic proof of this. Of course, the candidates will be introduced, and of course it will also come up where Hanna Sökeland and Benjamin Melzer are known from. But: This is also likely to be the case with the other candidates.
