Transgender model Alex wins Germany's Next Topmodel 2021
It's done! After numerous episodes, transgender model Alex has won this year's season of Germany's Next Topmodel. Even though there was always talk of "more diversity", many might be surprised by the victory. After all, she is the first transgender model to win the model casting show.
Accordingly, it is also celebrated by the community - even if not everyone was enthusiastic about the show. In the social networks, the concept did not only earn positive criticism.
Alex can now enjoy a model contract, fame and glory and support.
A GNTM final under Corona conditions
The current Corona situation ensured that neither the audience nor guest judges were allowed to be present. The luck and career of the four remaining contestants were thus in the hands of Heidi.
A little community feeling emerged nevertheless when some spectators, among other things also the families of the newcomer models, were switched on by video.
The rest of the show was not significantly different from other final shows in the past. There was glitter and hail of "girl power". Right at the beginning, the four contestants appeared as Superwoman, possibly to make a statement to all those who had repeatedly attacked GNTM on the basis of accusations of "misogyny" and "sexism. After this walk, however, Romina already had to say goodbye. For her it was "only" enough for place 4.
After the next round Dasha and Alex secured their ticket to the final. Soulin achieved a great third place.

As in the last final, Heidi Klum's husband Tom was also part of the party. Together with his band Tokio Hotel he performed the song "Behind Blue Eyes". But that was not enough! Because: Dasha and Alex got roles in the accompanying music video, which was recorded live.
However, this was definitely not just about "having fun", but rather about proving themselves one last time. Who was more convincing in the moving images? Who conveyed more emotion? The answer was finally clear shortly after half past ten: Alex. She not only won the finale of the show, but also 100,000 euros, a modeling contract, a car, and can also look forward to gracing the cover of "Harper's Bazaar.
Victory in the GNTM final - what happens now?
Even if the joy of winning the GNTM final is great, it would certainly be wrong to see this "milestone" now directly as the start of a successful modeling career. The coming months and years are certainly also dependent on Alex's ambition, a little luck and - of course - skill.
A look at the winners of the previous seasons shows that some models, such as Lena Gerke or Barbara Meier, have succeeded in realizing their dream of a great career - including in the field of moderation. However, there are also some former contestants who have gone quiet again over the course of time.
The real model business certainly differs in many areas from the colorful casting world. Nevertheless, Alex's participation (and, of course, her victory) may have played a large part in making diversity - at least for a short period of time - a somewhat more present role in the world of TV viewers. What Alex does now with her victory is up to her. She may be one of the GNTM winners we'll be hearing a lot more about in the future.
