Taliban (reportedly) kill homosexual men

After 20 years, foreign troops left Afghanistan. It was not long ago when the last U.S. servicemen and women were flown out of the country. Disaster quickly loomed. The Taliban conquered the country in just a few days, and when they arrived in front of the presidential palace, the president fled by helicopter. In short, it was obviously an easy game to get the country under control.

Many people were desperately trying to catch one of the planes that would take those who were lucky out of the country.

Unforgettable: some of them held on to the carriers of the machines themselves. This desperation has its reason - and in many ways. As we have also reported in recent days, since the seizure of power, women and homosexual men in particular have become targets of the Taliban.

Taliban kill gay men

Tragic stories from Kabul (Afghanistan)

On August 15, 2021, the Taliban captured the city of Kabul and many gay men were aware of what would happen to them if they were found. Therefore, many queers were also among the refugees. Some of them did not make it in time and were caught by the Taliban. What happened afterwards seems like a script from a horror movie.

A man was reportedly captured and nearly beaten to death in Afghanistan, then raped, forced to come out to his family, and finally killed. As an example was to be made of him, his body was dismembered post mortem. This was to show how the new "government" deals with homosexual men.

In the process, the Taliban often use social media to trap men. The victim mentioned above allegedly communicated with a man to help him escape. This is exactly what the Taliban exploited to kill him.

On the very night of the seizure of power, another man had to mourn the death of his friend, who was also beaten so severely that he succumbed to his injuries.

Trap Social Media?!

Social media platforms are the only way for some LGBTQI+ members in Afghanistan to present themselves as they are. The Taliban now find it easy to find and target gay and differently sexualized people. LGBTQI+ activists are especially at risk, as they are usually publicly fighting oppression.

The principle is reportedly always the same. Taliban supporters create fake accounts and pretend to belong to the LGBTQI+ scene. After they have built up enough trust with the men, they lure them to them under a pretext and judge them.

LGBTQ live e.V. demands homosexuals to be flown out of Afghanistan

With an open letter, the LGBTQ e.V. called on the federal government to fly out homosexuals and other queers from Afghanistan. The leader underlines the urgency of the matter, as people currently actually have to fear for their lives. They are at the mercy of humiliation, torture, rape and death.

Meanwhile, flights are no longer being flown out as regularly as they were a few days ago, and now only time will tell what happens next for the people in Afghanistan.

The alleged promises that the new Taliban government is more open and tolerant than the old one are increasingly turning out to be a lie. It is not only activists who have left the country and those affected who fear for the people in their former homeland. No one can say whether they will be able to return at some point. But one thing is certain, if the circumstances remain as they are, there is little hope for the LGBTQI+ scene in Afghanistan.
