Hate in Bremen - what happened?

On the weekend, a 37-year-old man threw two stones into the window of a well-known Bremen scene bar. Fortunately - according to "Buten un binnen" - no one was injured, although one employee was almost hit in the head by the projectiles.

A homophobic connection could well exist. Because: before the stones flew, the man had already been in front of the scene bar correspondingly scolded.

It is possible that the perpetrator had planned to cause even more damage and perhaps even to injure people. In the course of securing evidence, more stones were found in his backpack.

A problem that local people are worried about right now. On the part of the police, the perpetrator received a dismissal. However, this was only valid for 12 hours. Accordingly, it is possible that at the next opportunity he will make his way back to the bar or to another area where, according to experience, many queers are. According to the said report, only insult and damage to property will be taken against the man. However, there is no mention of homophobia here. Whether the act must now be classified as a "hate crime" in retrospect is still being clarified. Should this be the case, the State Security Service would also be called in.

In addition, it could also be that the landlord of the bar has to reckon with consequences. Because: due to his dissatisfaction with the actions of the police, he insulted the officers.

Homophobic act in Bremen

The bar, which recently became a target of homophobia in Bremen, is a household name for many members of the LGBTQ community. This location is not only about meeting, but also about experiencing - in the truest sense of the word - colorful evenings together. Among other things, karaoke events and drag bingos take place there.

Let's hope that the recent events do not affect visitors and that they can continue to enjoy relaxing evenings here.

In the meantime, several counseling centers, such as the "Rat&Tat-Zentrum für queeres Leben e. V." have also spoken out, drawing attention to the act and underlining in this context how strongly people in Bremen would have to fight against homophobia. At the same time, it also points to contact points for those affected and calls for solidarity from the political side. Thus, many responsible persons demand that anti-LGBTQ hate crimes should be better prosecuted and wish those who have become victims of attacks to decide to report the incidents in question. Above all, the demands made of those responsible in politics with regard to criminal prosecution played a leading role in the most recent CSDs.
