These Schlager stars are/were gay - how the Schlager world has changed

Nowadays, it is usually no problem to come out as a pop star. However, this was not always the case. Rex Gildo, for example, hid his love for the same sex. In the end, he took his own life - perhaps also due to external pressure. Since then, however, the world has changed. Especially in the pop business, there are now many stars who make no secret of their sexual orientation.

Rex Gildo

Rex GildoThis was one of the most tragic stories of the hit business ever. Rex Gildo, who was the "perfect son-in-law" for many, took his own life.

Again and again, rumors made the rounds that he had an affair with Christian Anders, among others. Whether his hidden homosexuality was ultimately the reason why he jumped out of the window can only be speculated. However, it is very likely that the "ideal world pressure" became too much for him and that's why he decided to leave.

Ross Antony

Ross Antony gay hit starsRoos Antony is one of the gay pop stars who live their homosexuality openly. He has been married to his husband Paul for years. Meanwhile, both also participate in TV shows together. Hiding their love? For both (obviously) unimaginable.

Meanwhile, the two have also adopted two children, but they keep them completely out of the public eye.

Eloy de Jong

Eloy de Jong - Gay pop starsEloy de Jong is also a wonderful example of how the music business has changed over the years. Back in the days of Caught in the Act, it would have been almost unimaginable for a boy band member to say "Sorry girls, I'm gay!".

Therefore, he kept his homosexuality secret for a long period of time. Today he lives with his husband and has become the father of a rainbow family. He has also written down many of the experiences surrounding his outing and the difficult relationship with his father in a book.

Earlier: Schlager stars "may" not be gay

Whether this sentence was actually once uttered in this form is not certain. What is certain is that in the post-war period and at a time when a man "had"tobe heterosexual (and good-looking), people simply could not imagine that "Sunnyboys" of this kind could not stand on women.

And it is precisely this pressure that has sometimes ensured that the stars of the scene in the 1950s and 1960s often perished.

Today, the list of gay pop stars who admit to being queer is getting longer and longer. Whether it's Patrick Lindner or Christoph De Bolle (Klubbb3): they have all sooner or later confessed to being into men.

And probably the Schlager world would be even more colorful - in the truest sense of the word - if even more artists would dare to stand by themselves accordingly and not be afraid of a career break (or even a career end).

How do Schlager fans react to the outings of their stars?

Anyone who looks at the relevant postings on social networks quickly realizes that many stars are likely to be pleasantly surprised by the reactions of their fan base. After all, a "Guys, I'm gay, by the way!"is usually followed by a veritable love storm, interrupted only now and then by homophobic comments.

In general, however, it can be stated that the stars who come out nowadays usually have to defend themselves against less social resistance than those who were confronted with this task about seventy years ago.

Society has changed - also insofar as numerous Schlager fans are now queer themselves and stand by it.
