Do Pride and Disney go together? Oh yes!

Disney+ will soon be focusing more on pride content, among other things. A total of six episodes will focus on the challenges and problems of the scene.

What does it actually mean to be queer? What has changed compared to "back then"? And how do people deal with it when they realize for themselves "Yes, I am queer!"?

The series is aimed not only at members of the scene, but at anyone who is interested in the relevant content and looking beyond the end of their nose. Without a raised forefinger, but close to the people and genuine.

A look at the individual episodes

The six Pride episodes on Disney+ were divided chronologically and cover the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s. Accordingly, it is particularly interesting to watch the individual episodes one after the other and thus see how the lives of queers have changed over time and what challenges the individual generations have been confronted with.

It quickly becomes clear that homophobia is by no means a classic problem of our time. As early as the 1950s, people had to defend themselves against exclusion, insults and the like. The situation became particularly stressful in the 1970s and 1980s when AIDS played an increasingly important role and - especially in the early years - was regarded as a "gay disease.

The documentary series is particularly colorful when it comes to dealing with the origins (and the celebration) of the Prides. Due to the different topics, the viewers are taken on an exciting journey, in the context of which it is repeatedly shown how an entire community struggles for the perception of its identity.Pride Month at Disney+

Who "Pride" is aimed at on Disney+

The target group for "Pride" is comparatively broad. This is not only because so many different topics are addressed here, but also because the way it is conveyed appeals to numerous people. Background knowledge is neither assumed nor ignored.

Nevertheless, there is likely to be some information that is new even to those who have been around the scene a bit longer. And this is perhaps the secret of the series' possible success: a look back and a tribute to those who fought for the rights that are taken for granted in many areas today.

Pride Month at Disney+

A look at important people in history

Pride is not only about events, but also about the people behind them. Time and again, queers are brought into focus who have stood up for themselves and their rights - sometimes with serious consequences.

Here, too, the comparison between "then" and "now" comes to mind. Or in other words: what is possible today could mean extreme exclusion back then.

To underline the corresponding content, mainly archive images are used. Some scenes were also acted out. The actors and actresses who were in front of the camera here are mostly not newcomers, but might be known to one or the other from other productions.
The result is a beautiful firework of art, impressive images and an important message.

That's how positive the impact of the Queer European Football Championship 2020 is.
