Who won the Swiss Diversity Awards?

The Swiss Diversity Awards have entered their third round. Once again, people who manage to build bridges between the community and the rest of society were honored. The event was hosted by Melanie Winiger. Winiger not only won the Miss Switzerland contest in the past, but is also known to many from the world of acting.

She is also not a new face for the Swiss Diversity Awards. She was already involved last year. At that time, she gave a laudatory speech.

But who was actually able to take home one of the coveted prizes in the respective categories in 2021?

The Swiss Diversity Award

All winners at a glance

The Swiss Diversity Awards are well known to many people within the scene. This time the following people/organizations were awarded:

In the category "LGBT+": the school project ABQ

The project is committed to breaking down barriers as early as adolescence. Queers and non-queers should get into conversation with each other and exchange ideas. In this way, prejudices are to be dismantled.

In the "Equality" category: the "Zwüschehalt" association

The association has set itself the task of protecting children and men from violence by women. This is a particularly sensitive topic - also in Germany - because many men do not dare or are ashamed to deal openly with such a problem.

In the category "Sport": Marco Lehmann

Marco Lehmann is a professional basketball player. It wasn't too long ago that he came out. Since then, he has been considered a role model for many within the scene and excellent proof that athletes don't necessarily have to be straight.

In the category "Disability": Sophie Mia Willener

Sophie is a jewelry designer and among other things designs hearing aids

In the category "Politics": Maya Graf

Maya Graf has been committed to women's rights in Switzerland for a long time. She takes action in different areas and wants to confront people at different levels with problems that many women have to deal with on a daily basis. One of her goals is to break through classic role and gender standards.

In the category Art & Education: the association Wert-Voll

The Wert-Voll association is committed to helping people who suffer from limitations and therefore find it difficult to find an apprenticeship.

In the category "Entertainment": AdemessiTV

AdemessiTV is active on Instagram and on YouTube. What's special here is that it's not just about making people laugh, but also about making them think. Funny and serious topics merge into each other and thus often enable a new approach.

The "Allianz Lifetime Award": Doris Gisler Truog

Doris Gisler Truog is now 93 years old and also a true icon within the Swiss community. She recognized early on how enriching it can be to have more open, tolerant and modern media reporting on the issues of the day. One aspect that was always important to her in this context: the topic of "equality". Not just between the sexes, but between all people.

The Swiss Diversity Awards - an important event even in times of Corona

The fact that the Swiss Diversity Awards could also take place in times of Corona is an important sign. The interest in the possible award winners was already high in the run-up to the event. The event aims to reflect diversity at different levels and to focus not only on people's sexual orientation, but also on different genders, nations and ethnicities.

As a result, the list of award winners this year was once again particularly colorful - in the truest sense of the word.
