U.S. military admits transgender recruits again

The Trump administration is history. And since Joe Biden became US president, a lot has changed. This became particularly clear recently with the fact that there are now new requirements regarding trans people in the American armed forces.

To put things in perspective, ex-President Trump had launched a law in 2019 that banned transgender people from serving in the armed forces. The said law represented a significant change in the treatment of queers. For: under Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, these restrictions did not yet exist.

Now the tide has turned again. Soon transsexuals are to be admitted as members of the armed forces.

Innovations come into force at the end of the month - and are likely to have far-reaching consequences

Among other things, the news that transsexual people will also be allowed to be members of the armed forces in the future caused veritable storms of enthusiasm in the social networks. It can therefore be assumed that many queers will make use of their new rights from the end of April.

Because: on the basis of the new guidelines, it is now completely irrelevant whether the birth sex corresponds to the gender to which the person concerned feels that he or she belongs.

But the law goes one step further! Thus, on its basis also the servicemen and servicewomen are to be supported who have not yet undergone gender reassignment and, for example, are dependent on appropriate treatments. Accordingly, the innovations not only stand for a support that would probably never have been possible under Trump, but also for a special kind of support that helps quite a few people to stand by themselves.

Many responsible persons welcome the step towards more tolerance

Among others, the current Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin expressed himself positively on Twitter. He writes about the "great strides our nation has made" and is sure that the transgender community can be supported even better.

He said it is the individual lives of those affected and the particular challenges they struggle with that make it important to stay on the ball.

America, he said, has the best armed forces "on the planet," and they would continue to put their faith in the best armed forces - regardless of which gender they identified with.

Under Austin's post there are several "Thank you"s, but also - as expected - statements from people who reject the innovations. Users like "Frankie is in charge" add another view "Most people aren't qualified for service, being trans has zero to do with that."

The discussions will certainly continue in the future. But the fact that the majority of people are quite enthusiastic about the reforms should give those responsible a tailwind.

America declares war on homophobia

Even though words like "homophobia" are rarely used by politicians in America at the moment, the current innovations show that the new U.S. president clearly opposes the policies of his predecessor.

While Trump had significantly curtailed queer rights during his years in office, a new wind is now blowing as the country increasingly refocuses on the laws of the Obama administration.

The fact that Biden is granting queers more rights should not really surprise anyone. After all, he left no doubt shortly after his inauguration that he would make improvements in this area. Lady Gaga's appearance on Inauguration Day was also seen by many experts as a clear statement in the direction of the LGBTQ community.

Accordingly, the queer-friendly course of the American government is likely to be maintained in the future. And apart from whether more trans people should now actually decide to join the armed forces unit: the mere fact that exactly that is now theoretically possible should please the country's community.
