How important is anal irrigation before sex? (Wolf, 51years)

Hello Dr. Randy,

I am Wolf and 51 years old. My question is: How important is anal irrigation before sex? What risks can arise for me in the process?

Love greetings Wolf

anal lavage

Dear Wolf,

Thank you for your question!
In fact, this is a consideration that occupies many homosexuals. Basically, you can clean or "flush" your bowels with an anal douche - as the name actually suggests. Many men find sex more pleasurable after a flush, as they run less risk of coming into contact with feces, residue, and the like. Some feel that this is an extreme turn-off. (It must be said, however, that the feces are normally located in the upper part of the intestine and are therefore usually difficult to reach for the penis anyway - except shortly before going to the toilet).

However, sex after anal rinsing is definitely more hygienic than without. Especially when the going gets a bit tough again, and possibly even small injuries occur on the penis or in the anal area, the risk of infections caused by bacteria and co. can be prevented.

However, it would also be wrong to claim that anal lavage is completely without risk. In order for you to really benefit from this procedure, it is important to follow a few "rules".

If you insert the tube incorrectly, for example, you can injure your bowel - in the worst case, even puncture it. You must also remember that the liquid you use for the enema must not be too hot. Otherwise there is a risk of scalding. Depending on the temperature, you may even suffer permanent damage.

Last but not least, you should of course also ensure a high level of hygiene with the equipment you use to perform the colonic irrigation. Otherwise, an irrigation can do you more harm than good.

In short: a colonic irrigation is quite important with regard to a high level of hygiene, but must be performed correctly in any case. If you feel like having "clean" sex, but find flushing unromantic: Why not try to integrate colonic irrigation into sex or foreplay? The possibilities here are particularly versatile, so that the procedure does not always have to be perceived as a "chore".

Have fun trying it out!

  1. A somewhat delicate question, dear Dr. !
Since I realized that I am a bi-sexual with regard to the gay side on passive anal intercourse, I have dealt with the topic of anal lavage. In contradiction to the circumstances also explained here, that in normal cases feces are only very deep above the threshold from the intestine to the rectum, which is called "Greiner's curve or fold" by some, this seems to have been the case with me only in my teenage years. Already before my first time with a man I rinsed with about 38° warm water and found that after 30min waiting still SOMETHING came out and after up to 2h again. And then when I did a quick check rinse, everything stayed clean, odorless and clear. I would not let another man penetrate with his penis if I was not sure that it was so clean that I would also insert my penis in someone else who would do it just as responsibly. Healthy lifestyle (with me gluten-free is important because of celiac disease) entails that during defecation everything comes off spherical, like a deer and almost odorless dressed with mucus. With a flush, stuck balls go out.

Now, however, after years it has set in with me that I almost constantly have the feeling that it is Something in the intestine and in preparation for gay sex I routinely always flush tempered and go to safety.
As a lubricant I use cream with aloe vera and no classic lubricants.
Also, the bowel itself seems to produce lubricant. And when I had a friend insert his penis into me a few times, the semen had the effect of making the bowel clean itself better and also produce more mucus itself with each gay sexual arousal.
My partners were not only safe with me, but really liked it.
While it didn't used to be this way it is now more so that I feel any small amount in my rectum and it bothers me, even when there is no pressure.
    Something must have changed.
Now I don't know what could have happened and how to get it back to normal.
I would like some advice on this.

One thing is for sure: Since I routinely flush, I never have to deal with yeast fungi on my skin in summer, as I often used to do up to the groin (those that react to nystatin and are gone immediately after one application of nystatin). Thus, I do not like to use paper after going to the toilet (there the French and Arabs are advanced with their bidets) and it is only a stopgap to use wet wipes for this.

  2. I think it's good that something like this is being dealt with, since there are no other opportunities to be informed about something like this.
I find it especially good that one is also made aware of what side effects or risks there are and what the consequences can be.
