What does it actually mean to be pansexual?

The LGBTQ community is getting bigger and bigger. More and more people are coming out about themselves and their sexuality. A term that has been used here again and again for several years is "pansexual". But what exactly does it mean to be a pansexual person?

Why do some people find it so difficult to come out of the closet?

The following sections are intended to shed some light on pansexuality and to show that the kind of love that is hidden behind it is by far not as complicated as many sometimes think.

What is pansexuality

In summary: who is pansexual?

To be pansexual means to love people of all genders. Accordingly, a pansexual person does not care which gender another person feels to belong to. Either it sparks or not.

For a long period of time, there was no word for this way of loving. However, it became apparent that the term "bisexual" was far from sufficient to express what the people concerned felt.

Gender does not matter for pansexuality

Pansexual people cannot say of themselves that they are "only into women" or "only into men", for example. Instead, pansexuality is much more versatile than it might seem at first glance.

A corresponding "flexibility" can also show with regard to one's own identity. Among other things, many pansexual people resist to be put into a kind of "gender category". Some describe themselves as "non-binary" and refuse to be addressed as woman or man.

What exactly is pansexuality about?

Pansexual people are directed against the classical "defaults" in the area of love. This means: "just" because they are a woman (or a man), they do not have to love a man or a woman.

They break through these boundaries and instead reserve the right to theoretically enter into a relationship with all adult humans. Or in other words, they love people and not a particular gender.

More and more people come out as pansexual

With the increased awareness of the term "pansexual", the number of people professing this type of sexual orientation gradually grew as well. It almost seemed as if some had only been waiting to receive a designation for what they felt.

In addition, over time, some prominent people have also come out as pansexual. In this way, more and more pansexuals have been encouraged to do the same and step out of their shadows themselves.

As liberating as the story of pansexuality may sound, many of those affected had a hard time asserting themselves in the community. Gradually, however, pansexuality became more present within the LGBTQ scene. Today it represents an important part of the scene and claims more and more often the right to be perceived as an independent movement. According to the motto "Pansexuality is not bisexuality!" it is among other things also about enlightenment and demarcation.

These stars are pansexual

As already mentioned, there are more and more stars who openly admit to their pansexuality. Among them are such well-known personalities, such as Bella Thorne, Sia, Kesha and Miley Cyrus.

They all discovered over time that their interest was not "only"inmen or "only" in women. Instead, they are fascinated by many different people - regardless of their gender.

In the course of the outings, her fan base was not only understanding, but often simply enthusiastic. Time and again, there was talk - including on social networks - that the discussion of pansexuality by public figures had inspired many others to come out of the closet.
