Not only in this country, but also in the USA, there are always statistics that deal with questions about graduates at universities. One of the most recent evaluations reveals an exciting finding.

Many gay men go to university

Previously, a distinction was made only between male and female graduates

It became apparent time and again that many men or male youths did not manage to achieve the degree they had originally aimed for. Either they gave up earlier or had poorer grades than their female classmates.

In the USA in particular, however, it is currently becoming apparent that it makes perfect sense to go into a little more detail here. If you take a closer look at the male graduates of universities, you will quickly recognize what a professor at the University of Notre Dame is now describing in particular detail: more than half (!) of the gay men in America have managed to obtain at least a bachelor's degree. This puts gays well above the average.

However, the gay men can boast not only the sheer number of degrees, but also the grades that go with them.

How comfortable are gay men in college?

The assumption that good grades always go hand in hand with a good time at university is wrong. Even today, queers are still often discriminated against in the academic environment. However, many of them shy away from defending themselves against bullying and the like, for example. In some cases, they throw themselves into work and thus often manage to hold their own and achieve the degree they were originally aiming for.

For the sake of completeness, however, it should also be mentioned that there are definitely also gay men who think back to their university days with a smile. Among other things, there are also more and more offers in Germany that are aimed at queer students. From queer lectures to toilets for diverse people, many things are offered that can make everyday life at the university easier.

Society is changing - and so is the focus on certain topics

The fact that queers are increasingly taken into account in everyday life and that (obviously) changes in people's minds is shown by the fact alone that in the course of surveys and statistics, a distinction is now made between queers and cis in various areas. Or in other words: If there was no corresponding interest, a distinction would continue to be made "only" between men and women.

However, the fact that it has now been further subdivided shows that it is now more than just a trend to deal with a topic in a significantly more multi-layered way. The community should be pleased. Not only about the result, but also about the generally changed perspective.

Details for more visibility

Granted: Questions like "AmI interested in how many vegan people are gay?" or "Is it interesting whether gay men have better university degrees than straight men? " are questions that everyone must answer for themselves.

One thing is certain, however: the very fact that it is theoretically possible to obtain more in-depth information here shows that society is changing and the visibility of the relevant groups is being increased.

Of course, there are - as always - also critical voices... Among others even from the community itself. Some are of the opinion that the division into "straight" and "gay" contributes to the fact that the position of queers as a minority is further supported.

"Pretty Little Liars" star Julian Morris has also come out of the closet.
