As in every year, there has been speculation for a long time about who might host the ESC in 2022. Now it has been officially announced. Alessandro Cattelan, Laura Pausini and Mika will lead through the - probably again beautifully colorful - program. The message was announced by ESC-kompakt.
But what would a solemn announcement referring to the ESC be without music? That's probably exactly what those responsible thought. Therefore, the two ESC presenters and the presenter-to-be sang or accompanied an Abba song before the decision was finally made public.

Mika might still be known to many music fans because of his catchy tune "Grace Kelly". But even after that it was not quiet around him. Among other things, he also brought other hits like, "Big Girl" on the market and provided so at many parties in the 2000s for good mood. In 2012 he outed himself.
Laura Pausini is one of those stars who have no problem defending the community even against larger institutions, such as the church. She was critical of the reaction of the faith community to the blessing services, which had a wide appeal in the scene. She stated that homosexuals also have a right to be a family. Everyone should have the same rights.
Alessandro Catellan has a close connection to music anyway. This can be seen, among other things, in the fact that he was a contestant on the Italian X-Factor.
In short: If the goal was to pick three people who have a connection to both the scene and the music, the project can definitely be called a "success". And even if Germany has often failed to convince the international community in recent years, it can be assumed that quite a few people in this country will tune in again.
Who will be competing for Germany?
Now that the question of the moderator has been settled, it's time for many fans to start thinking about something else: Which artist will enter the race for Germany?
It won't be long before exactly that is made public. On February 10, there will at least be clarity about the shortlist. For each act, however, is already true: The competition is great. A total of far more than 900 applications were submitted. The jury's task was to select the most promising and send them one round further.
On 04 March the audience is asked
This is a procedure that many have wished for. On 04 March, the audience can decide who will enter the race at the ESC 2022. At 20:15 the show starts live on ARD. The preliminary decision will be moderated by ESC darling Barbara Schöneberger. Whoever manages to get the most votes will be in the final at the big ESC show in mid-May... And will be announced by Alessandro Cattelan, Laura Pausini and Mika... And maybe finally celebrated as the winner?
