At a time when some artists and performers complain about not performing in the usual way and instead on corona terms, the CSD 2021 in Berlin is causing a bit of resentment in some parts of the population.

The reason: some participants stood in the crowds without masks, celebrated and danced exuberantly. In the meantime, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn has also commented on this, according to the "Welt" newspaper, stating that such an approach "does notfitthe current pandemic situation".

He further explained that the hygiene rules would apply to all people - and no matter for what purpose they meet.

Berlin CSD splits the net

The CSD 2021 in Berlin - what happened?

No question: the CSDs that took place before the Corona Pandemic were colorful, exuberant and diverse. Also last weekend, many queers and visitors did not miss the opportunity to stand up for the rights of the community. According to official police figures, well over 60,000 people were on hand. (For comparison: originally "only" 20,000 visitors were expected).

In addition, as many pictures from the social networks prove, the hygiene regulations, such as distance and mask, were partially ignored. Not by all, but by some.

And: although the organizers had actually asked not to drink alcohol at this year's CSD in the capital, some participants enjoyed beers and the like.

The CSD 2021 in Berlin - protests are raised afterwards

Berlin CSD splits the net

Admittedly, those who followed the accounts of the Berlin police in the social networks last Saturday initially got the impression that the disregard for hygiene rules was just a few "slips on the side".

However, other pictures prove that there were quite a lot of people who obviously did not wear their masks properly and also did not keep the prescribed minimum distance of 1.50 meters.

And precisely because of this - probably also because of Nena's comment in which she declared that she did not understand that the CSD had taken place in this form, but that her concert was taking place under different conditions - a discussion flared up on the net within a few hours, essentially about the question of whether the famous end could justify the means here.

Or in other words: is it allowed to demonstrate for the good cause by thousands and to ignore Corona rules, if smaller concerts and events are judged much stricter?

Opinions continue to diverge. However, Jens Spahn's statement shows that the political side seems to be making a clear statement here.

One of the main problems on this day, however, seems to have been that about 40,000 to 45,000 (!) fewer participants were expected. According to media reports, some visitors had also complained about it, in the course of the route, due to too narrow paths, it had become dangerous now and then.

Lateral thinkers also want to demonstrate

One aspect that adds fuel to the fire is the fact that the lateral thinkers have also been increasingly insisting on their right to demonstrate for some time. Many events have already been canceled in the past.

The ones to suffer in this context could once again be the police officers who are tasked with protecting the demonstrations or ensuring that hygiene regulations are observed. According to the motto "Why aren't we allowed to do this when others are?", there could be a kind of need for explanation.

In the meantime, the actions of the police during the CSD in Berlin are sharply criticized in the media - exactly for these reasons. The probability that the gap between the different parties has now become a little wider is high.
