The Rainbow Ball in Vienna is one of the absolute highlights in the event calendar for many queers. However, those who currently want to buy tickets might be surprised and(ideally) just have to be a little patient. Because: Corona could put a spanner in the event's works.
The good news in this context, however, is that the ball has not yet been canceled. There still seems to be a little hope.
Why was ticket sales for the Rainbow Ball stopped?
In Vienna, too, the Corona rules have become stricter again - especially due to the Omikron variant. Currently, no more than 2,000 people are allowed to meet inside and the seats must be assigned.
And this is precisely where the problem lies. Because: Anyone who has ever been to the Rainbow Ball knows that, among other things, it's all about dancing. A ball "for sitting" would not be the same. Therefore, ticket sales for the 24th edition were stopped for the time being. However, the organization is exchanging views with the relevant authorities and then - based on the situation and the rules in force in the new year - would like to decide.
Until that happens, everyone will have to be patient.
WHEN the Rainbow Ball takes place....
... the whole thing should once again become a real happening. If everything goes according to plan, the Parkhotel Schönbrunn will be transformed on the evening of January 29, 2022, into a glittering party location with great guests and a wonderful message.
Among other things, not only a mix of music and dancing is planned, but also an awards ceremony. And even if ticket sales are currently on hold, the thought that the community in Vienna might be able to celebrate at the end of January seems like a small glimmer of hope.
Not everything, but certainly a lot, now depends on how Omikron develops in the coming days and weeks. However, the meticulous planning in the run-up may have ensured that the organizers can react "spontaneously" as far as possible.
The community has increasingly relied on online events in the past
No question: Even during the pandemic, it was and is important to draw attention to the concerns of the community and to show visibility.
In order to do just that, the LGBTQI+ community has increasingly relied on online offerings since the first lockdown. Among other things, CSDs and award ceremonies were broadcast to the world via the Internet.
However, for an event like the Rainbow Ball, that is exactly what is likely to be difficult. In addition to the important message that the event undoubtedly spreads, however, the ball also lives from a very special flair that has made it known beyond the city limits of the region. Let's hope that the infection figures in the neighboring country will allow the Rainbow Ball to be celebrated safely.
What award should be presented at the 2022 Rainbow Ball?
If the event actually takes place on January 29, 2022, it will be a small premiere. Because: for the first time since the ball exists, an award will be presented.
The Rainbow Ball Award is to be presented to an association that has made a special contribution to the community and has committed itself accordingly.
