For the first time in history, an LGBTQI+ activist has been appointed U.S. Ambassador. The 41-year-old Scott Miller from Denver, Colorado is not only a wealth advisor, but also actively campaigns for the rights of the scene.
When he can start his service in Switzerland still depends on some bureaucratic activities. The LGBTQI+ scene in particular should be pleased with the election. After all, a queer man now represents their country abroad.

New US Ambassador to Switzerland

Scott Miller Commitment to the LGBTQI+ Community.

Scott Miller is an avowed homosexual and has a happy marriage with his husband Tim Gill. They got married in Boston in 2009. At that time, same-sex marriage was already permitted there.
The two are committed to the rights of the LGBTQI+ community on the basis of generous financial support, among other things. To date, they have already invested several million euros and thus support various associations, institutes and other organizations, among others.
Their goal is to provide for more tolerance and equality within society on the basis of the corresponding actions. But a look at the past also shows that they have already achieved a lot. Among other things, they are among the people who have worked for the elimination of convention therapies. Said therapies involve using highly questionable and often criticized approaches to diminish homosexual thoughts and reinforce heterosexual feelings.
Miller, however, not only supports the community financially, but is himself co-chairman of the Gill Foundation. This actively and effectively advocates for the rights of gays, lesbians, transsexuals and other members of the LGBTQI+ community. Due to the fact that Miller (and also his husband) are so committed to the topic and it is obviously a matter of the heart for them to be active here, it can be assumed that even after the move to Switzerland, the two will continue to stand up for the rights of queers around the world.

Queers in the US Government - No Longer a Rarity

Since Joe Biden has held the office of President of the United States, significant changes have been made in connection with the corresponding responsibilities, which, among other things, should particularly please the LGBTQI+ community. One positions are now occupied by homosexual, bisexual and other queers. In addition to Scott Miller as Foreign Ambassador in Switzerland, Pete Buttigieg is also among those who hold an important office. For example, Buttigieg is the current U.S. Secretary of Transportation.
Although Miller's predecessor was already in active contact with the community in Switzerland, the new ambassador means that "one of our own" will now be speaking. The likelihood that Miller will have an even better understanding of the issues that queers face every day is high.
Moreover, it represents an important statement on the part of the U.S. that offices will be awarded based on qualifications, not sexual preference or the like. Many now hope for even more equality and a rethinking in dealing with homosexuals and other sexually oriented people - also and especially in politics.
Accordingly, we can wait with excitement for the first official acts of the new U.S. ambassador.
