Kit Connor comes out as bisexual
Anyone who knows the Netflix series "Heartstopper" also knows him: Kit Connor. Here, the actor plays the role of bisexual Nick Nelson. Now Connor has also come out as bisexual in real life. However, the whole thing did not happen voluntarily. Rather, this step was a reaction to accusations of queerbaiting.
Until his outing, Kit Connor had never spoken about his sexual orientation. However, in recent days he was accused of queerbaiting by many of his fans on social media. Now Connor has decided to take the "flight forward". He has outed himself - also via social networks - as bisexual.
Fans doubted Kit Connor's credibility
The stumbling block were pictures showing Kit Connor holding hands with his actress colleague Maia Reficco. He had appeared with her in front of the camera in "A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow.
And that's exactly what bothered some of his fans. They found the images, in combination with the fact that Connor plays a bisexual young man in "Heartstopper" and has repeatedly emphasized in conversations that he can identify with his role, confusing.
Kit Connor didn't actually plan to come out. But: This incident made him open up to his community as well.
Connor didn't really want to talk about his sexuality
In the course of his (still young) career, Kit Connor has been confronted with rumors about his person again and again. However, he seems to have a hard time coming to terms with this circumstance.
In the social networks he commented on the accusations and wrote that it was "funny" that some of his fans knew better about his sexuality than he did. In the past, he had also pointed out, among other things, in conversation with journalists that he would find it a great pressure that apparently expected him to comment on his sexuality. However, he had no intention of allowing himself to be pigeonholed.
No one should "have to" come out of the closet if they are not actually ready to do so.
Kit Connor comes out as bi via Twitter
A few days ago, Kit Connor posted on his Twitter channel that he was bi. However, he adds that it was definitely not his own decision to come out now at this time. Rather, he felt forced to come out because of the pressure that had been created. Some would not have understood what the show was about. He closes his post with a short "Bye".

It didn't take long for many of his fans to speak out and voice their displeasure to those who forced Connor to take this step. However, there are also many who directly addressed the actor to encourage him.
For many (and of course for Kit Connor herself), it might seem somewhat sobering that the series "Heartstopper" repeatedly points out how important it is to be empathetic and sensitive at various points in the plot. The message, which is actually positive, unfortunately doesn't get through to many people. However, it is all the more heartwarming to see that Kit Connor is now being welcomed into the community by numerous people on social media.
