In Switzerland, marriage for all opponents advertise with tasteless poster

The time will soon come: the Swiss population will vote on the hotly debated marriage for all. In order to convince as many opponents as possible, the conservative camp has now come up with a poster that is more than tasteless. It showed an undead man and the words "Children with a dead man - marriage for all no". The message: rainbow families could owe their child blessing to a dead person.

The fact that opponents of marriage for all rely on such emotionally charged messages is not new. The question is to what extent they might actually succeed in generating votes with such a form of "advertising.

The Swiss cities are currently dealing with the motif individually. While it had to be removed or pasted over in Geneva, in Zurich it can still be used in a prominent place, at the main train station.

Some people complain about the zombie representation

It didn't take long for the zombie to make it into the social media world. Again and again, there were complaints because the depiction seems not "only" inhuman, but also creepy. Children in particular could also feel "watched" by the undead, since it was constructed in such a way that it stares at passers-by.

Opinions differ on this kind of mood-mongering. While some look past it, others find the campaign extremely inappropriate and hurtful. Among other things, because it is of course also seen by children who are part of rainbow families. Statements of this kind can quickly lead to even deeper rifts and ultimately to bullying.

In the meantime, many scientists have also dealt with the question of how two same-sex parents affect the development of the offspring - naturally in the interests of the children. Again and again, most of them came to the conclusion that the children would not miss the mother or father and that this would not result in any disadvantages for them.

But what is actually behind the poster's statement? Can it really be that a child is conceived with the sperm of a dead person so that it can then grow up in a rainbow family?

Dead people and sperm donations? Is that even possible?

However, anyone who takes a little time to look behind the poster's statements quickly notices that it is "questionable" not only with regard to the motif, but also with regard to the message behind it.

Because: what may sound a little creepy does not even correspond to the truth. After the death of a human being, neither his or her ova nor semen may be used for fertilization. Those who do not take the trouble to do a little research here accordingly run the risk of taking this loaded statement at face value. As a result, the conservative camp, which is so emotionally opposed to marriage for all, could gain more support.

The good news in this context, however, is that a look at the social networks shows that many opponents of marriage for all have obviously not done themselves any favors with the action. Numerous people are shocked by the approach and feel disturbed by the posters in public spaces. It is also somewhat difficult not to believe that this is a kind of "desperate act", with which once again - shortly before the vote - all levers are to be set in motion. However, the vote will show to what extent the conservatives have harmed themselves. This will take place on September 26, 2021. Among others, many celebrities have already spoken out in support of marriage for all in Switzerland.
