Public statements on rainbow crosswalks that address LGBTQ issues are more important than ever in a time when hate, homophobia, and intolerance still play a major role. Many members of the LGBTQ community appreciate when cities (or businesses) make a statement to that effect.

What is merely a compilation of colors for some people represents a kind of attitude to life for them. Because: the mere fact that many people are still bothered by a rainbow print on products of well-known brands shows that there is still a long way to go here.

Innsbruck is now one of the cities that have decided to give the rainbow a special place in the cityscape.

The rainbow crosswalk is finally here!

Innsbruck sets an example with rainbow crosswalks
The story around the rainbow crosswalk in Innsbruck started already in summer last year. At that time, a corresponding application was made by the Green Party. Now the colorful crosswalk has become reality. Even a little earlier than originally planned.

In the meantime, the "work of art" has also made it onto the social networks. The white stripes have not been replaced by paint. It is only the spaces in between that have received a small coat of paint. The message is nevertheless recognizable at first glance.

The crosswalk in the "Rainbow Look" has been well received so far. Even if there are one or two comments that do not approve of actions like this, we can still speak of a largely positive response.

Some authors dismantle themselves on the net by pointing out that the colorful color no longer provides any protective effect. Among other things, they refer to the traffic regulations in this context. Homophobia in everyday life has many faces and sometimes hides behind particularly "adventurous" statements.

Not the only project of this kind

Meanwhile, the rainbow plays an important role in many cityscapes - and not only in Austria. Time and again, those responsible decide to make a statement with the help of color and artistic ideas.

Opinions on the respective projects are - as in Innsbruck - largely positive, but as good as always divided.

Shockingly, however, it often does not "only" remain with negative comments in the social networks. Many people who don't have much to do with topics like LGBTQ and tolerance are now not afraid to damage the results.

Why are rainbows, crosswalks, and LGBTQ art so important?

Rainbow Look crosswalks are more than just a colorful crosswalk. It's an important way to make issues like LGBTQ and queerness even more prevalent in people's everyday lives.

If the colorful everyday stations were labeled with a sign, it would probably say "Yes, we are here and we exist!" would be written on it.

Actions like the rainbow crosswalk show that homosexuality should have been considered normal long ago - so normal, in fact, that at some point it simply belongs and is no longer noticeable.

Just like the crosswalk or the park bench in rainbow design, which just belongs and makes life even more colorful than it already is.
